With ABC news reporting that Steve Carell, Greg Daniels, and several other key writers and actors are respecting the picket line, it looks like “The Office” is shutting down after this week’s episode. This doesn’t surprise me at all. This show is a prime example of how collaborative television can be. Many of the actors are writers (or should I say that many of the writers are actors?), and even the camera seems to participate in the storytelling process in a very tangible manner, often taking on a personality of its own. The hand-held shots are used in such a way that they imply the characters of cameramen and directors. While Carell and other actors could have still gone on set as actors, and Daniels could have continued as a producer, they’ve made the choice to support their fellow writers fully.
The ABC report suggests that they’ve been working on a YouTube video. While I have yet to see any fruit from this rumor, my YouTube search did result in another find. I’m assuming this guy is joking and not actually that big of a jack-ass, but even if he’s not, it’s still fun to laugh at a jack-ass:
